Andrea Howe, President

After building a successful and growing editing business, Andrea turned her attention to making her community stronger and helping those who need a hand. Beginning in 2007, she helped manage Seattle’s annual Can’t Stop the Serenity fund-raiser, serving as the lead organizer starting in 2008. When the opportunity came to help the Seattle Browncoats social group expand into a certified nonprofit, Andrea led the effort to incorporate the group and start it on the path to doing more good work. While not working with SB Charities, Andrea’s company, Blue Falcon Editing, wrangles the written word, improving language in this era of ever-increasing reliance on ineffective spell-checking software and social networking shorthand. Andrea also speaks to local writers’ groups, helping budding scribes navigate the harsh waters of professional writing and publishing. She lives in Everett, Washington, with her husband, Jeff, a travel agent.

Larisa Brown, Secretary

Larisa Brown’s first foray into science-fiction-related activism was her successful campaign to allow Star Trek reruns into her otherwise television-free childhood. She has read science fiction voraciously ever since—and she watches it plenty too, but her fandom never actually converged with her interest in charitable work until she joined the Seattle Browncoats in 2008 and realized that, after nine states, four countries, and three continents (plus an island), she had at last found her People. While busy with an IT career and a life of far, far too much knitting, she considers it a privilege to support her community through her ongoing involvement in Seattle Browncoats Charities. Now if she would just get those Jayne hats finished…
