The crew of Seattle Browncoats Charities has been running the Seattle Can’t Stop the Serenity charity event since its inception in 2006. In fact, it’s part of what drove us to found SB Charities in the first place. We decided we could and should do more than just this one event every year.
Can’t Stop the Serenity is a worldwide movement, created by fans of Joss Whedon’s TV show Firefly and its big-screen continuation, Serenity. Events are held every year in cities all over the globe; some are big, consisting of multiday conventions, and some are small, with just a screening of Serenity. But all of the events raise money for Equality Now, which fights violence and discrimination against women and girls everywhere.
Here in Seattle, we have raised more than $21,500 for charity since 2006. We have also donated quite a lot of food to Northwest Harvest food bank.
